With Release Wave 1 of 2026, Microsoft continues to invest in strengthening Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations as an intelligent, scalable, and future ready ERP platform. The new cross app capabilities do not focus on isolated features, but on the foundation: how data is managed, how performance is safeguarded, and how users and AI assistance collaborate more effectively. This update is particularly relevant for organizations operating in complex, data rich environments with multiple legal entities, strict compliance requirements, and a growing need for insight and automation. Through improvements in archiving, performance, transparency, and Copilot integration, this release helps customers work faster, steer more effectively, and structurally reduce risks.
Increase productivity with Copilot
1. Improved data tooling in the Dynamics 365 ERP MCP server
This improvement replaces the use of OData with direct SQL queries in the data tools of the Dynamics 365 ERP MCP server. This results in significantly improved query performance, broader support for data operations, and more accurate responses from agents.
2. Enable agents to work with file attachments via the Dynamics 365 ERP MCP server
This functionality enables agents to actively work with file attachments through the Dynamics 365 ERP MCP server, allowing document‑driven ERP processes to be supported intelligently.
One Dynamics, One Platform
1. Build custom scenarios using the Archive Framework
This functionality enables customers to build and execute their own custom archiving scenarios using the Dynamics 365 Archive Framework. Custom tables can be archived using the same supported, enterprise‑grade mechanism as the archiving scenarios delivered by Microsoft.
By leveraging this capability, Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations can continue to perform quickly, reliably, and smoothly—even as the system grows and customization increases—while maintaining correct access to both current and historical information.
2. Parallel processing for archiving jobs supporting long‑term data retention
This update enables parallel processing for the execution of archiving jobs related to long‑term data retention. This allows customers to archive historical data significantly faster by running multiple archiving jobs simultaneously, reducing operational impact and simplifying maintenance.
What’s in it for you?
Users
For users, this update ensures that Copilot responses are faster, more accurate, and better substantiated, making AI assistance in Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations more practical and reliable in day‑to‑day work.
Makers
For makers, there are expanded opportunities to leverage information from the Dynamics 365 ERP MCP server within Copilot agents. In addition, the (customization) capabilities of the Dynamics 365 Archive Framework make it possible to archive custom tables.
Administrators
Administrators can configure parallel processing for archiving jobs related to long‑term data retention, significantly reducing overall processing time.
Why act now?
By enhancing archiving, performance, transparency, and Copilot integration, this release enables customers to work more efficiently, manage operations more effectively, and systematically minimize risk. The underlying foundation is strengthened, making this — in our view — an action with no downside.
